Guide to Buying C02 Gas Guns/Pistols - Self Defense
You do not need a license or background check to own a gas gun. You can buy one today and legally protect your home or car immediately. This saves you from months of police paperwork and waiting periods. However, according to the Firearms Control Act and SAFTA, if the gun calibre exceeds 5.6mm and and the energy produces at the muzzle exceeds 8 Joules, then a firearms licence is required. Most Gas Guns do not fall within this range and therefore is legal to own without a licence. If you are still unsure, Extreme Outdoor can provide you with a certificate of ownership at your request.
You can stop an attacker before they get close to you. Unlike blank guns that just make noise, gas guns shoot solid nylon or pepper balls. You hit the target with physical force, causing enough pain to stop a fight while staying safely out of reach.
You have two power options. CO2 canisters give you higher velocity and a harder kick, making them the best choice for self-defense. Green gas fills up easily like a lighter and is better for target practice. You choose the power source that fits your specific needs.
You need to decide if you want to practice handling recoil or deliver the hardest possible hit. Blowback models have recoil like a real firearm, which is excellent for training your grip and aim under stress. Non-Blowback models keep the slide stationary, sending all the gas energy directly into the projectile. This gives you higher velocity, a harder impact, and more shots per canister, making non-blowback the superior choice for practical self-defense.
Frequenty Asked Questions
Can I leave the gas canister in my gun?
For CO2 models: No. You should remove the CO2 canister as soon as you are finished shooting. Leaving it under pressure will crush the seals and cause leaks. For Green Gas models: Yes. You should actually leave a small amount of gas in the magazine to keep the internal seals lubricated and prevent them from drying out.
Are Gas Guns Lethal, can they kill?
You want to neutralise a threat, not take a life. Gas Guns shoot a powerful yet tiny BB Bullet to deter a threat, but they are not designed to kill. You get the stopping power you need to survive a dangerous situation without the heavy legal burden of using lethal force.
how far can a gas gun shoot?
You can accurately hit a target from 15 to 20 meters away. This distance creates a vital safety buffer, allowing you to stop an attacker before they can touch you. While the projectile can travel further, staying within this range ensures your shots land with maximum impact and precision when it matters most.
